1 / Monday
Fly from Charlotte to Lima. Evening arrival in Lima. Meet your travel director and transfer to the hotel.
2 / Tuesday
This morning enjoy a tour through Lima’s streets and plazas. Starting at the Love Park in Miraflores, with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, and then heading to the Huaca Pucllana, ceremonial center of the Lima culture. Later, go on to the Main Square where the Government Palace and the Town Hall are located. We will admire the Cathedral and explore the Santo Domingo Convent.
3 / Wednesday
Transfer to the airport to board flight to Cusco. Upon arrival drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. En route stop at Awanacancha, to admire Andean camelids such as alpacas and llamas and learn from local inhabitants about traditional dyeing and knitting techniques. Later explore the Pisac Market with enough free time to buy handcrafts and to taste the traditional empanadas.
4 / Thursday
Today the focus on the more remote sites in the Sacred Valley. We start our excursion in Chinchero, to appreciate the beauty of the town and archeological site. Continue to Moray, where the view is awesome due to the colossal concentric terraces simulating a huge amphitheater. The purpose of it: to recreate 20 different types of microclimates, a measure that guaranteed the agricultural production of the empire. Then visit the community of Mullaka’s Misminay, where you will have the opportunity to participate in one of their daily agricultural activities. You will learn about ancient techniques still in use today and the different products that come from their fields. You will also learn about the local herbs used to treat sicknesses. Lunch will be served here, a delicious meal made with their local products. After lunch, go to Maras, the salt mines from colonial times. The contrast of the white wells and the green valley makes for a spectacular snapshot of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
5/ Friday
This morning, we will visit Ollantaytambo, a small town full of local color and inhabited since Inca times in which we will visit the main temple used as a fortress during the Inca resistance. There are breathtaking views for amazing pictures.
6/ Saturday
This morning take the bus up the winding road to Machu Picchu, amid a spectacular view of the Urubamba River and its canyon. The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu is astonishing with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps and urban areas. Energy is all around us. Return to Cusco by expedition train and transfer to the hotel.
7/ Sunday
This morning, enjoy kayaking on the beautiful Huaypo Lagoon, known for its crystal clear water. In the afternoon take part in a cooking lesson where you will learn about the vast variety of local products that make Peru a foodie hub.
8/ Monday
Morning visit to a local school. We have donated didactic games for the students at the school. We will meet the students, teach them some English and play some games. Afterwards, climb up the Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman to admire the fortress and the huge rocks measuring up to 12 feet high used in its construction. Continue to Q'enqo-- one of the largest huacas (holy places) in the Cusco area-- and Tambomachay with its series of aqueducts and canals. On the way enjoy panoramic views from Puca Pucara, a watchtower that controlled the entrance to the city. Then visit the Temple of the Sun ("The Korikancha"), on top of which the Santo Domingo Convent was built. A legend tells that this temple was entirely lined with gold sheets that marveled the Conquistadores upon their arrival. Finally, visit the Cathedral in Cusco, with afternoon free time. Have dinner at the Tunupa Restaurant Bar and Grill where there will be a folklore show.
9/ Tuesday
Transfer from the hotel to the airport to take the flight back to Lima, and then connect with departure flight to USA. Arrival in Charlotte the next day. Breakfast.
